Surprise!

There are few things in life as delightful as a nice surprise: a forgotten $5 in a pocket, for example, or the sunglasses you thought were lost.

I especially appreciate an unexpected blossom. Today, daffodils are nature’s gift.

I had no idea daffodils were planted in a remote corner of my yard. I suspect they had never bloomed because the now-banished bunnies aren’t devouring them. I do miss seeing those cute little cottontails hopping around the garden, but I don’t miss their destructive dietary needs.

Our days are often filled with unwelcome surprises. It might be a worrying diagnosis or a car accident. A pink slip from your boss can be a shock. This morning, I awoke to discover we are at war!

So, it is never more important to watch for gifts of nature—a bloom, a really sweet peach, a rainbow. It is crucial to relish the surprise call from a friend. I find scripture is full of surprising new insights that uplift my spirit.

Today, I celebrate the daffodil. I would love to know what you have discovered.
